Creating your own homemade fabric softener is easy peasy! I know, it’s all over the internet but like I said, this is a personal spouting board for myself and if someone finds these things useful, bonus!
My kitchen has horrible lighting and I am using my cellphone to snap shots as I go, sorry the pictures aren’t better but at least I have pictures! I’m getting better.
What you need:
- Cheap hair conditioner (V05, White Rain, Suave, etc.)
- White Vinegar
- Water
- Jar or other container
- Essential Oils (optional)
Directions:
Mix 6 cups of hot water with 2 cups (16oz) of hair conditioner & 3 cups of white vinegar. Optionally, you can add fragrance by adding a few drops of essential oils. It is ready to use immediately.
Instead of adding it to your wash, you could also dip a washrag in the solution (wring it out real well) and throw it in the dryer as a dryer sheet
WARNING!! DO NOT USE THIS FABRIC SOFTENER WITH BLEACH! BLEACH + VINEGAR = VERY BAD STUFF. You have been warned, just don’t do it.
UPDATE!!!
So I have used my new homemade fabric softener a few times and this is what I have learned: it doesn’t work well in my fabric softener dispenser. It leaves some slimy, chunky, goo in there. Instead, I use an old wash cloth; dip it, wring it, and throw it directly in the dryer with the wet clothes and that works well for me
Here is the recipe along with the Easy Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent recipe in a printable format. I have one of these taped on the inside of my laundry room cabinet for easy access.
